Data Mining – ICGC PanCancer Project

Description

The CNAG-CRG is one of the major Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe. It is integrated in the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), an international biomedical research institute of excellence classified in the 6th position (Q1 indicator, Health sector) by the Scimago Institution Rankings (SIR) World Report 2015.

 

The CNAG-CRG is actively involved in collaborative research projects on a number of specific topics: Disease Gene Identification, Cancer Genomics, Genomics of Infectious Diseases, Model Organism Genomics and Synthetic Biology. Researchers at CNAG-CRG actively participate in several H2020 consortia, lead one ERC Synergy grant and are involved in major international initiatives in Genomics (ICGC, IRDiRC, IHEC, GA4GH).

 

We seek a postdoctoral researcher to work at the CNAG-CRG on the project Exploration of non-random Somatic Mutations in Cancer Genomes, led by CNAG-CRG director Dr. Ivo Gut and Leader of the Biomedical Genomics Group. The project will be associated with the ICGC PanCancer study for which somatic mutation calls for close to 3000 cancer genomes from many different cancer types are available.

The position requires a candidate with experience in statistical analysis of biological data and relating results to biological processes. 

 

Requirements:

-A doctoral degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer science or a related discipline.
-Advanced knowledge of statistical packages such as R and/or scripting languages such as Python.
-Experience in working with mysql databases would be advantageous.
-A good working knowledge of Unix systems, in particular large Unix clusters.
-Good spoken and written English.
