PhD Student Liver Imaging
Your function within the department
The position is available at the department of Radiology at The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) with an academic appointment at Maastricht University, The Netherlands. Liver metastasis is currently (besides standard systemic chemotherapy and surgery) treated with image guided therapies such as radiofrequent ablation, microwave ablation and transarterial chemo-embolisation. These techniques improve local control and the prognosis of the patient in case of unresectable liver metastasis. For these techniques it is of major importance to select the patient for the right treatment strategy and to monitor response after treatment with MRI and CT.
The PhD student will evaluate how to predict response to image guided interventions, select patients for the appropriate treatment and detect response and recurrence after treatment. The PhD student will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of (interventional) radiologists, surgeons and oncologist. The goal of this PhD proposal is to provide evidence for the most appropriate imaging modality for prediction of and assessment of response to therapy and recurrence after intervention. This PhD project will be a great start for a further career in (for example) radiology, surgery or medical oncology.
We are looking for a PhD student with a Master of Science (or almost completed MSc) in Medicine with an interest in clinical oncological research.
No prior experience in medicine is required. We are looking for a motivated PhD candidate who has communication skills and can function in a multidisciplinary team. Experience in reserach and imaging as well as experience with English writing is highly valued.
