Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Biological Physics and Statistical Mechanics (f/m)

Description

Job Code:
10756
Department / Research Group:
Epigenetic regulation and chromatin architecture
Name:
1 Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Biological Physics and Statistical Mechanics (f/m)

A 3-year Post-Doctoral position is now open in the Nicodemi group based at the Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB) of the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin, Germany. The MDC is a vibrant research institute dedicated to interdisciplinary research in the areas of Medical Systems Biology, Function and Dysfunction of the Nervous System, Cardiovascular and Metabolic diseases, and Cancer. It is a member of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers, funded by the Federal Government of Germany and the Senate of Berlin. In particular, BIMSB aims to integrate the levels of gene regulatory control into comprehensive and predictive models that elucidate their functioning in health and disease. The MDC is an equal opportunity employer and supports gender equality.

Description:

The research topics concern the investigation of the molecular mechanisms underlying the 3D organisation and regulation of eukaryotic genomes, by combining models of polymer physics, computer simulations and experimental high-throughput data analysis based on frontier technologies, such as GAM. In particular, the focus is on genomic loci linked to human diseases. The successful candidate will work within a collaboration including physicists, molecular biologists, and bioinformaticians at the MDC, in Berlin and across EU and USA. Additional information is available via email requests and at Nicodemi’s web-page (people.na.infn.it/~nicodem).

Skills:

The ideal candidate should have a PhD and a strong background in statistical mechanics or computer simulations, biological physics or bioinformatics. Programming skills (e.g., C, Python, R), experiences with polymer physics and with the analysis of 3C-based (e.g., Hi-C) and sequencing data (e.g., DNA/RNA-seq, ChIP-seq) are preferential qualifications.
