Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Cancer Immunology
We wish to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to conduct research into molecular mechanisms by which T cell immunity is suppressed in cancer. The work will be an important step toward developing novel immunostimulatory therapies that work by activating T cell responses within tumours.
CD4+ and CD8+ effector T cells promote immune activation and can drive clearance of infections and cancer. Effector T cells can also promote autoimmune and allergic inflammation, a potentially deleterious activity which is restrained by a diverse set of peripheral tolerance mechanisms. While mechanisms of peripheral tolerance play a beneficial role in preventing inflammation, similar mechanisms can also powerfully suppress immune responses in cancer in a process known as immunosuppression.
The laboratory utilises mouse genetics, cellular immunology and molecular biology to understand mechanisms of peripheral tolerance and immunosuppression. This position will focus on gaining a mechanistic understanding of processes involved in tumour immunosuppression. Candidates should have a PhD or MD/PhD, a good understanding of basic immunology, and practical experience with mouse models.
The successful applicant will join the laboratory of Dr Rahul Roychoudhuri within the Lymphocyte Signalling and Development ISP at The Babraham Institute. The applicant will gain access to extensive resources for characterising cellular and molecular processes underlying tumour immunosuppression, including mouse genetic models of cancer, conditional mouse genetic systems, flow cytometry, molecular biology and RNA- and DNA-sequencing-based techniques. Where relevant, the applicant will also be able to utilise newly developed platforms for high-throughput CRISPR/Cas9-based genetic screens. The applicant will benefit from training in a variety of cutting-edge approaches in immunology, molecular biology and functional genomics and exposure to the collaborative and collegial environment present within the Institute.
