Research Assistant in Genome Stability and Evolution


 We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the Houseley laboratory at the Babraham Institute.
This position is funded through a Wellcome Trust award aimed at discovering the mechanisms by which useful, adaptive mutations such as copy number variation (CNV) form within complex genomes. Uncovering mechanisms that control CNV will have far-reaching implications as CNV is rife in eukaryotic genomes and has been implicated in a plethora of common disorders.
The successful applicant will join a team investigating how gene expression changes that occur in response to the environment direct CNV to certain locations in the genome. The particular aim for this position is to elucidate the impact of ageing on local CNV rate and determine whether ageing therefore facilitates adaptation.
This position would suit a candidate with experience in molecular biology and will include a substantial lab management component (20-30%) to support the research in the Houseley lab.

Starting salary is £25,795 per annum to £27,090 per annum depending on experience.
