The main focus of the work is on providing efficient access to next generation sequencing (NGS) technology platforms. A further focus lies on the implementation of novel genomics protocols including automation, as well as of lab management tools to ensure high-class scientific services.

The successful candidate will:

• work closely with the head of the group and the other team members; in particular the candidate will organise routine operations and guide technicians in their daily work

• maintain and further develop routine services of the platform (e.g. Illumina and PacBio sequencing), including in particular wet-lab but also data analysis pipelines (the latter with support from the bioinformatics teams at the MDC)

• assess and implement new commercial methods for next generation sequencing and other wet-lab genomics technologies

• consult internal and external users of the technology platforms on the technical capabilities of genomics approaches, as well as support design of experiments and interpretation of results

• ensure complete project relevant documentation and project accounting

• establish with external companies and maintain a laboratory information management system and a booking system, as well as contribute to the establishment of cost matrices

• participate in training of new scientific team members and technicians in genomics methods


• several years of postdoc, core facility or industry experience in genomics applications

• substantial expertise in application of large-scale genomics wet-lab methodologies, and potentially experience in related bioinformatics data analyses

• a proven track record of successful interdisciplinary collaborations

• strong skills in organisation and communication

• proficiency in written and spoken German and English
