Systems and Network Administrator
The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) seeks a highly qualified and motivated Systems and Network Administrator to support its critical IT infrastructure. The FMI is an international institute pursuing fundamental biomedical research. It has a staff of 350, including about 200 postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for Windows and Linux servers running within a VMware virtualized environment. In addition, he/she will support the high-end computational, storage and network needs of a cutting edge research environment in order to meet the demanding needs of the scientists.
Qualifications: For this challenging position you must have experience working with Windows, Linux, virtualization as well as networking within a production environment. You have a strong background with a Windows server environment (e.g. Exchange, Active Directory, SQL Server), as well as experience supporting commercial and open source applications. Scripting and programming experience relevant to system administration tasks is also required. Experience in a basic research setting is advantageous, as well as a degree in a field of computing or natural sciences. This position is hands-on and demands both an independent working style and a strong business focus to successfully support scientific research and operations in our organization.
