European Institute of Oncology
The IEO (European Institute of Oncology) project was launched in 1987, with the aim of creating a “comprehensive cancer centre” with research laboratories and clinical services.
The first activities commenced in 1991 and in 1994 the current site was officially opened and clinical work started. It has been a private non-profit IRCCS since 1996.
It has three core activity areas:

The IEO is one of Italy’s 44 research hospital and treatment centres (IRCCS or “Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico”) dealing with specific disease sectors, and is part of Italy’s National Health Service.
