Experienced Animal Technician (Biological Support Unit)

Up to £24,929 per annum plus a £4,500 allowance

The position is based in the Small Animal Facility in the Biological Services Unit. Animal Technicians are responsible for the care and welfare of rodents held at various levels of containment for example using flexible film isolators or IVC’s. Technicians must hold or have held a Home Office Personal Licence and will have a weekly commitment to performing regulated procedures. Part-time applicants will have reduced duties according to hours worked.

Staff will not be able to perform any tasks until they have received full training from a supervisor/mentor in accordance with pre-written SOPs.


Staff will be encouraged to attend college on a day-release basis following the Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) qualifications and others (e.g. HNC, degree).  Animal Technicians may be asked to work in other areas of the Small Animal Facility.
