PhD Student Artificial Intelligence in Radiology
Your function within the department
The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) is the only Comprehensive Cancer Center in The Netherlands (Amsterdam). It is a well-organized and dynamic cancer research institute accommodating over 50 research groups and advanced core facilities. It is an internationally renowned center covering fundamental, translational and clinical cancer research.
The department of Radiology, chaired by Professor Regina Beets-Tan, pursues research in oncological imaging covering a broad spectrum of cancer types. The most established line of research within the group is MR imaging of rectal carcinoma - resulting so far in over ten doctoral theses, 97 high-impact publications and numerous contributions to international congresses. The research output has served as the basis for several international guidelines in the area of colorectal carcinoma.
We are looking for a PhD student to join the Beets-Tan research group - specifically in the Immunotherapy Imaging Team. The research line is dedicated to the leveraging of artificial intelligence in the assessment and prediction of response to different forms of immunotherapy via ubiquitous imaging modalities (i.e. CT and MRI).
We offer a PhD studentship for an ambitious candidate with a passion for the application of artificial intelligence in medical imaging to address open research questions. A background in computer science, applied mathematics, biomedical engineering and/or computing is preferred, while theoretical knowledge and practical experience with computer vision, computational biomedical sciences, machine learning and/or computational probability and mathematical modelling is strongly appreciated.
Your career opportunities and terms of employment
You will join a dynamic international research division and collaborate with scientists and clinicians within and outside the NKI-AVL with expertise in different disciplines. Graduate students at the NKI participate in the education program of the Oncology Graduate School (OOA) Amsterdam. Supervision and promotion of career will be carried out by experts in their respective fields.
Your temporary employment is for a period of 4 years with a possible extension of another year. The gross salary per month will be from € 2.665,- € 3.282, according to the standard PhD scales.
