PhD student MRI based risk mapping in prostatecancer
Your function within the department
Patients who are treated with radiotherapy for prostate cancer receive a multi-parametric MRI exam to determine the location and extent of the tumor inside the prostate gland. This is used for target definition and can be used to increase the radiation dose to the location with highest tumor load. The benefit of focal dose escalation is currently tested in the FLAME trial. Further personalization of treatment plans may be based on an assessment of the characteristics of the tumor, such as Gleason grade and radioresistance. In this project we will develop and validate an MRI-based method to map the risk of high-grade disease. This model will be applied to the available data of the FLAME trial.
Your task will be to develop a model to translate multi-parametric MRI data into a map reflecting the probability of high-grade disease and radioresistance. For this purpose, MRI data needs to be analyzed and correlated with histopathology. The work involves analysis of histopathology data as well as machine learning for MRI model development.
We are looking for an ambitious PhD student with a strong affinity for image processing, MRI and analysis of histopathology data. The candidate should have a master’s degree in biomedical engineering or a related field with experience in programming. Experience with machine learning and deep learning techniques as part of the master program is recommended. Fluency in English is essential for this position. Can you identify yourself with these conditions, we would like to invite you for an interview.
Your career opportunities and terms of employment
You will join a dynamic international research team, and will collaborate with scientists with expertise in different disciplines. You will have the opportunity to follow high-quality courses offered by the OOA oncology graduate school throughout your PhD.
Your temporary employment will be for a period of four years. The gross salary per month will be from € 2.665,- € 3.282, according to the standard PhD scales. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
