Postdoc or PhD student Computational biology: Discovering novel therapeutic options for treatment-resistant breast cancer
Your function within the department
Each year, worldwide over 1.7 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer. Around 75% of these tumors are Estrogen Receptor (ER)-positive, and these patients receive therapies that specifically inhibit ER function. However, resistance to treatment is frequently observed, resulting in lethal metastatic disease that cannot be cured.
The successful candidate will join forces with an experimental molecular biologist to further our understanding of ER functionality in breast cancer, aimed at identifying novel therapeutic options that will deliver clinical impact. Specifically, we will generate comprehensive data sets consisting of epigenetic studies, proteomics, transcriptomics, ChIP-seq profiles and focused CRISPR-Cas9 screens in both the treatment sensitive and resistant setting. Together with the experimental colleague, the successful candidate will perform comprehensive integrative modelling of these data streams, generate hypotheses and validate these with bespoke experiments.
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoc or PhD student with a Master's degree in cancer biology, bioinformatics or computer science, with a strong demonstrated proficiency in bioinformatics or computer science. Preferably applicants should have a strong documented experience in analyzing high-throughput genomics data. Fluency in spoken and written English is a strong requirement.
Your career opportunities and terms of employment
A Postdoc will be employed for a period of 4 years. The gross salary per month will be from € 3.215 to €3.917 according to FWG55 depending on education and previous experience. A PhD student will be employed for a period of 4 years. The gross salary per month will be from € 2.665,- to € 3.282,- according to the standard PhD scales. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
