EU-LIFE statement on the final Multi Annual Financial Framework agreement
EU-LIFE congratulates the European leaders on the agreement reached for the EU 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) Programme, which is crucial for Europe to move forward.
In particular, we deeply thank the tireless efforts made by Commissioner Mariya Gabriel, Director-General Jean-Eric Paquet and the European Parliament namely several MePs including Christian Ehler and Maria da Graça Carvalho to safeguard research and innovation and, in particular, Horizon Europe’s package.
Unfortunately, the agreement reached is far from what is needed. Despite the modest top-up under NextGenerationEU, Horizon Europe´s budget still lacks the means to address Europe’s current needs and frontier research faces acute under-investment, as noted in our recent statement.
Therefore, more work is ahead. As an active stakeholder representing leading European independent research institutes, EU-LIFE has contributed with concrete and clear ideas on the design of Horizon Europe for a stronger and smarter approach to research and innovation in Europe. We remain committed to participating in the implementation stage starting now for Horizon Europe.
