The EU-LIFE community gets together in Vienna!
We just celebrated the 11th EU-LIFE community meeting, which was hosted by our member institute CeMM in Vienna, Austria, on 24-26 April 2024. This year, it was co-located with the EU-LIFE Utopia Conference 2024, devoted to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
To kick-off the meeting, Giulio Superti-Furga, Chair of EU-LIFE and director of CeMM gave an enthusiastic welcome to all attendees, followed by a presentation of CeMM. Marta Agostinho, EU-LIFE Executive Director, provided an extensive update on the alliance activities and policy work of the last year.
Each of our working groups got together to align strategies, plan the next year and catch up on each other’s news! During their meeting, the strategy group, formed by the EU-LIFE board of directors, main representatives and executive director, had the opportunity to exchange views and plans for the future of research in Europe with Heinz Fassmann and Helga Nowotny.
And of course, there was also time for social activities, music & food!
On Friday it was time for the EU-LIFE Utopia Conference 2024: A Social Innovation Experiment with Artificial Intelligence. Organised by André Rendeiro, Jörg Menche & Giulio Superti-Furga, it included presentations on different projects developed with AI and a wide range of perspectives and approaches to the application of AI in life science research, including legal aspects and the upcoming European AI Act. The format of the sessions allowed for interaction with the audience and discussion among the members of each panel. We plan to publish a report with a summary of the main topics discussed – stay tuned!
