EU-LIFE Better Together session: Research Security

Abstract

Growing geopolitical tensions have put stress on the cardinal scientific values of openness, collaboration and academic freedom. Worldwide, researchers are more confronted with the topic of research security and in Europe, policies are being introduced for higher education and research performing organizations to assess the risk for malign interference. Although this may sound unsettling, the measures have the goal of upholding the scientific values of openness and collaboration while protecting the institutions from misuse by third parties.

These new policies will have an impact on the way research is performed in EU-LIFE institutes, but to what extent? Should we be concerned or will the impact on our day-to-day science and collaborations be relatively mild?

In this talk on International collaborations: how to navigate research security, Marta Agostinho and Iris Uribesalgo will discuss the current state of the research security debate from a policy perspective and Henri van Luenen will share the experiences of the NKI from an institutional point of view. There will be ample room for questions and discussion.
