Europe needs Research & Innovation to address the future – EU-LIFE reaction to the EU Council deal

EU-LIFE, the alliance of leading research institutes in the life sciences across Europe, praises the EU Council for reaching a compromise on the Multiannual Financial Framework of 2021-27 and Next Generation EU under such current complex and difficult circumstances.

This much-needed agreement was made, however, at the expense of crucial investments in European research and innovation, namely Horizon Europe.

In the midst of unprecedented pandemics and in a time when European research and innovation is already struggling about its competitiveness to deliver solutions to the citizens, we call now on the European Parliament to revoke these dramatic cuts and ensure an appropriate EU research and innovation budget for the next seven years.

We remain available to participate to constructive dialogue with all stakeholders involved and ready to do our part as research and innovation community.
