EU-LIFE Strategy Meeting 2024 is held in Copenhagen
This year’s EU-LIFE Strategy Meeting was hosted by the Biotech Research & Innovation Centre (BRIC), University of Copenhagen, on 21-22 November. The EU-LIFE Strategy Group, formed of the Board of Directors and main representatives of all our member institutes, got together to establish the main priorities of the alliance for 2025.
The strategic discussions also included an exchange session with leaders from the Danish academic, funding and biotech sectors. The aim of the session was to explore how fundamental research can serve as a foundation for innovation. The conversation centred on strategies to identify and address key, unresolved questions in the life sciences, and how fundamental researchers contribute to the new global research agendas. The session was moderated by Giulio Superti-Furga, EU-LIFE chair & Director at CeMM. The distinguished panel of speakers included:
- Lene Oddershede, Senior Vice President, Natural & Technical Sciences at Novo Nordisk Foundation; Professor at Niels Bohr Institute (University of Copenhagen)
- Jan Egebjerg, Senior Vice President, Grants & Prizes, Director of Science at the Lundbeck foundation
- Jesper Svejstrup, Vice president of ERC Scientific Council (Life Sciences); professor at Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (University of Copenhagen)
- Søren-Peter Olesen, Chief Executive Officer, Danish National Research Foundation
- Bobby Soni, Chief International Officer, Bio Innovation Institute
- Trine Winterø, Vice Dean for Innovation at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (University of Copenhagen)
In addition, there was a session open to the BRIC community. It followed up the conversations about collaboration and co-creation held during last year’s Envisioning the research centres of the future conference. The discussion centred on how scientific ideas are generated and the mechanisms that research institutions can put in place to foster collaboration at all levels.
