EU-LIFE welcomes the European Commission communication and expresses its strong support to the strategic objectives and actions for a new and strengthened European Research Area and states below its first reaction.
The EU-LIFE community, which spans over 7500 researchers in 14 European countries including our UK partner The Babraham Institute, will continue to join forces with researchers, innovators, policy makers and all relevant actors across the European continent to enable the best science and ensure the transformation of scientific achievements into improvements in peoples’ lives.
With the post-BREXIT situation, the time to re-shape the relationship between the EU and UK has arrived. This doesn’t mean that international collaboration in science and research is any less essential. EU-LIFE, EuroScience and Wellcome have launched the #dealforscience petition to help the research community show how much they want a good deal for science.
EU-LIFE welcomes the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (IIMCB) as a new member
The International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (IIMCB) has officially joined EU-LIFE as part of the process of expansion of the alliance. The decision was ratified by the EU-LIFE Board of Directors and the IIMCB Director and is effective as of January 1, 2020.
We are looking for a Project and Policy Officer to join EU-LIFE team. This is a great opportunity to work on an international alliance dedicated to the improvement of life sciences research through science policy and sharing practices in research governance.
Young scientists and researchers at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência and Institut Curie organized a joint Young Scientists Retreat on the 22nd and 23 of September 2019. A great initiative between young scientists from our Portuguese and French members to share their work and foster networking & collaboration!
In our Open Letter we urged the European Parliament and the EU Council to provide Horizon Europe with key assets and to prioritise R&I by committing an appropriate budget for Horizon Europe. Now we keep advocating for R&I through a media campaign to urge politicians to increase the budget for scientific funding.
René Medema, Director of Research of the Netherlands Cancer Institute, has been appointed the new chair of EU-LIFE, an alliance of thirteen leading life science institutes in Europe, as of 1 January 2020.
EU-LIFE Community members held their annual meeting in Milan on 7th and 8th of October. One more year, the working group members, main representatives and directors from our 13 member institutes joined to strengthen the on-going EU-LIFE collaborations looking for an optimal environment for excellent research.
